HOPE

Ayyoub poses with a drawing of U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in his studio in the West Bank city of Ramallah July 22, 2008.
photo: Reuters Pictures

This photo has particularly moved me in that I felt like I should write about it. I actually first saw the photo in a New York Times article with the picture on a wall in Ramallah. Palestinians have been known to be anti-American and this photo being posted publicly in the city gives me great hope. I am not one of those people who thinks Obama can solve all of our problems but seeing this photo makes me feel like this is an essential step in the right direction. I hope that in the next four years we make great strides in coming to peace with many of the countries who do not support our country. I for one do not support many of the things that the American government has done but I am going to try to put those feelings behind me and hope a more peaceful time is coming to the world.
